Sweet Luck Mill…

I missed you all. Taking just one week off feels like an eternity.

Camping was good, at times great. Two women in the community taught my kid how to fish. Then, my 12-year old managed to reel in SIX catfish! We weren’t allowed to put the fish back in the pond (overpopulation), so a Russian friend prepared the fish for dinner. The “tribe” ate what she caught… a true rite of passage!

Thanks Nikki, Jan, and Ilya!

It was the summer of 1997 and, at Burning Man that year, I handed out a few dozen found-at-the-flea-market buttons that simply read “EAT FUCK KILL.” The buttons quickly took on a life of their own. Soon there were new buttons with all kinds of knock-off messages (the greeters put “GREET FUCK CHILL” on their buttons, for instance). The next year I made stickers and I even silkscreened some used $1 work shirts (the most highly coveted EFK item).
Twenty years later, people are still talking about the buttons and asking me when I’m making more stuff with the EFK image on it.This summer. This summer I’m bringing back EFK. There will be a limited edition line of products. If you’re interested in finding out when it’s launched, sign up for my low volume “Sweet Luck Mill” email list.

Real things you can actually buy: yay!

Eject Button cigarette lighter

Eject old people: This is cool if you have cigarette lighters in your car. I didn’t realize that new cars don’t have cigarette lighters anymore. I’m old. My car is old. Available for $13.99. Thanks, Pee-wee!

Pitiful Puddles Pity Party hat

Perfectly Pitiful: Did you know? You can buy a Puddles Pity Party hat, just like he wears in his show. It’s a cut-up Solo cup that’s been spray-painted gold with the letter “P” on it (genius). He recommends that it be worn at a “jaunty angle.” P.S. Did you see him on AGTThanks, Whoever-told-me-this-and-I-forgot!

4th of July Conservatory of Flowers Psychedelic Electric Parade

San Francisco, California

[Fourth of July] Super-unofficial Electrical Parade at the Conservatory of Flowers, between 8 PM and 10 PM, “Bring your own blinky,” YOU are the parade.

Remember a few weeks ago I told you that the Conservatory of Flower building in Golden Gate Park will be will be illuminated in psychedelic colors to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love? Wellll… now there’s going to be an flash mob-style “Electrical Parade” held there on the Fourth of July! This LED extravaganza is hosted by the Squirt Gun Mafia who you might remember from the brilliant IKEA Slumber Party event from a few years back.

Here’s some details from the group’s Facebook event:

“Activities may include: break dancing, beat boxing, break boxing, beat dancing, doing ‘the wave’ or at least “a” wave, saying ‘hi’ to that person with the super impressive EL wire wings, wondering what Burning Man ‘camp’ those 9 year olds are from because DANG do they have some impressive arduino skills, revealing (at last) the Singularity, whatever else you want this thing to be (performance artists welcomed with open, wavering arms).”

We’re doing this, right?

Museum of Capitalism in Oakland, California

Oakland, California
[6/17] The Grand Opening of the Museum of Capitalism, 55 Harrison St, Suite 201 (Mezz), 6 PM to 9 PM, Tickets

I don’t know much about this one except that a bunch of my pals are going and that usually means it’s something to keep an eye on. It’s described as “an institution dedicated to educating this generation and future generations about the history, philosophy, and legacy of capitalism, through exhibitions, research, publication, collecting and preserving material evidence, art, and artifacts of capitalism.”
