Inspiration in Real Life…

Last week I went to dorkbotSF and was so inspired by the speakers! I need to keep this short but do keep an eye on the 747 Project. It’s ridiculously cool.

Artist-in-Residence: Tex Allen

Why the Nose?

Love me some last-week-of-the-month interview questions…Here’s Tex’s answers to my questions!

RB: If you could tell your 35 year-old self one thing, what would it be?
TA: Let go and operate in trust…remember, all the epic stories you’ve already lived? There’s more…WAY MORE AHEAD OF YOU! Remember, you’re the one creating this sh*t!

RBHow young is your inner child?
TA: This many <3 (holds up four fingers and a thumb)

RBWhat are you currently working on?
TA: The largest moving art piece in Burning Man history and the Nose to go along with it. #believeit

RB: What are the three most luxurious items you possess?
TA:
* My double-ply turtleneck, black cashmere sweater coat.
* A pair of “only 500 ever made” 1985 RayBan Olympian III sunglasses in sport matte black in pristine condition
* The love and partnership that’s shared (not possessed) with my muse and goddess, Ms. Catherine Foshee, AKA: BattyKitten

RB: What’s the most surprising thing about you?
TA: I was adopted and all the records from the hospital and agency were destroyed in separate fires. My school records from 1st through 12th grade, also lost in fires. Memories and history from my first and second marriages…BOTH lost in fires and destroyed (neither of my doing)

I have little history, except for the present…apropos, yes?

RB: Why the Nose? 🙂
TA: Because it makes people happy and creates precious moments of human connection and presence in a digitally distracted and disconnected world <3

THANK YOU, TEX!!

Funn Pack

Funn Pack by Dan Das Mann

This is the Funn Pack

According to its creator (and model), artist Dan Das Mann, it has “12 lasers, 1000 watts of sound, 2 smoke machines, 1 bubble machine, 4 mirror balls” and is “powered by a lithium ion battery.” It weighs 50 pounds and is worn like a jet pack.

So, where is the party? Well, it sounds like Dan is first taking the Funn Pack to Lightning in a Bottle, a festival happening over Memorial Day weekend in Bradley, California.

Hope he’s got some strong ear plugs!

Save the Date: IRL Picnic

Kaiser Center's Rooftop Garden in Oakland, California

Save the date: I’m hosting an IRL (Inspiration in Real Life) picnic on Tuesday, June 14th at 11:30 AM at the Kaiser Center’s Rooftop Garden in Oakland, California. The garden is an amazing 3.5 acre open outdoor area on the TOP of the Kaiser Center near Lake Merritt. There’s a POND, folks.

The fun part: You will have 5 minutes to share something creative you are doing. It could be a project you started at home or something you are making at work. No project too small! No pressure! Or, just listen to what others are doing for inspiration. To get up there: Take the elevator to “RG” from the parking garage (garden is free, parking is not free).

The IRL Picnic is a BYOL event, meaning “bring your own lunch”!
