Smashing…

Since Saturday night, I’ve been having a great run o’ fun. Meaghan Kennedy’s pinata workshop at the Unicorn Estate was a smashing success, as was the after party. On Sunday, I had an absolutely splendid time celebrating the fifth anniversary of the EPS. On Tuesday, Meaghan and I went to met with Dan and Bethany Shine who have recently opened the Innovation Hangar in the former Exploratorium space (next to the Palace of Fine Arts). It’s really cool! And, heads up artists…they are looking for art to exhibit in June (ping me directly if you want more info.)

May brings on a new Artist-in-Residence. This month it’s the one and only San Francisco treat, Josh Ellingson! He’s got some “Drunk Tweets” to share.

Winner of giveaway! We have one! Elliotte B. has won a copy of Camille Rose Garcia’s Mirror, Black Mirror. Yay!

I’m just seeing on Janelle Hessig’s Instagram that the San Francisco board of supervisors declared Tuesday, May 5th, “Ron Turner Day”! As you may know, Ron is the founder of Last Gasp, the famous underground book and comics company started in San Francisco 45 years ago. Congrats, Ron!

p.s. Raise your hand if you get tripped up by Math Captcha too!

“Besides being a really nice person, her editorial focus, style, and efficiency make her one of those rare content creators/curators that knows how to build an enthusiastic audience of great size. When I think of online writers and bloggers who are at the top of their game, Rusty is one of a handful who really know what they’re doing.”

Artist-in-residence: May 2015

by Josh Ellingson
“Drunk Tweets”
“For the past couple of years, I’ve occasionally been working on a series of small drawings and paintings of drinking birds. Some of them have dialog bubbles but mainly their inebriation has been expressed in facial features or actions. I call the series “Drunk Tweets” and I post them mostly to Twitter and Instagram. Many of them can be seen at my website here:
With my artist residency, I’d like to continue my Drunk Tweets and expand on them to include reader-submitted dialog. If you’ve got a favorite overheard bit of drunken conversation, drunken late-night tweet, or other bit of alcohol-induced dialog, send it to ellingson@gmail.com and maybe it will make it into my series. Cheers!”
